The formula
Needles = pi x cylinder diameter (inch) x gauge (needles per inch).
Worked example
Machine diameter: 30 inch, Gauge: 24 needles/inch. Result: Needles = 2,262.
Assumptions
- Cylinder needles only; dial needles on double-jersey machines add the same count again.
