The formula
Thread = seam length x ratio per stitch class (lockstitch 2.7, 4-thread overlock 18, coverstitch 16), plus wastage. Cone = 5000 m.
Worked example
Lockstitch seams (301): 150 cm, 4-thread overlock seams: 200 cm, Coverstitch seams: 60 cm, Wastage: 15 %. Result: Thread per garment = 57.1 m; Cones per 1000 pcs = 11.4.
Assumptions
- Published rule-of-thumb ratios; heavy fabrics and dense SPI run higher.
- Ratios cover all threads in the stitch, needle and looper together.
